Westfield sits in Bennet Head, a small hamlet in the parish of Watermillock, within the Lake District National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Watermillock lies along the western shore of Ullswater, on the quieter side of the lake away from the busier honeypots — yet only a short drive from Penrith and the M6, making it an easy base to reach without feeling like a drive-through destination.
The Ullswater Way passes close by, so walking straight from the cottage door is genuinely possible, and the lake itself — with its steamers, watersports and villages — is a short trip away in either direction.
By car: Watermillock is reached via the A592, the road that runs from Penrith to Ullswater and on towards Windermere over the Kirkstone Pass. Penrith and the M6 (Junction 40) are a short drive away, making Westfield an easy stop coming from the north or south.
By train: Penrith station sits on the West Coast Main Line, with direct services from London Euston, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester. From the station it's a short taxi or drive on to Watermillock.
By bus: The Stagecoach 508 service links Penrith with Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along the lake, useful for a car-free day exploring the villages around Ullswater. Check current times with Traveline before you travel.
Parking: Westfield has free private parking on site, plus an EV charge point.
At the northern tip of Ullswater, with pubs, cafés and the northern Ullswater Steamers pier.
At the southern end of the lake, the gateway to Helvellyn and the main steamer pier and pier house.
A remote hamlet on the quieter eastern shore, reached by steamer or on foot along the Ullswater Way.
The nearest market town, with shops, restaurants and the mainline railway station.
